Welcome, warrior! Here are the answers to some of the most common questions about The RO:AR Games.

The RO:AR Protocol & Event Format
What is RO:AR Games?
RO:AR Games is a hybrid athlete race that challenges your strength, endurance, and mental toughness. It's a raw, real test that combines high-intensity running with seven strength challenges, all using the RO:AR Mace.
What is the RO:AR Protocol? The RO:AR Protocol is the training philosophy behind the race. It's designed to build true, functional fitness by focusing on three key pillars:
Cardiovascular Fitness: You'll complete a total of 10 km of running.
Rotational Strength: Workouts 1 and 7 will test this with 10-2 pattern mace swings and 360-degree mace swinging.
Asymmetrical Loading: Five other workouts (Squats, Bicep Curls, Lunges, Shoulder Press, and Deadlift) will challenge you to stabilize the lop-sided weight of the mace.
What is the race format?
The race begins with a 1.2km run on the track, followed by your first workout. This 1.2km run is repeated after each of the seven strength challenges which will test your rotational strength and capacity to manage asymmetric loads. The final lap is an extended 1.6km run, bringing the total running distance to 10 km.
What are the 7 strength challenges?
The strength challenges alternate between upper and lower body. Since all workouts are done with the mace, the loading is always asymmetric. There are - '10-2 Swings', Loaded Squats, Asymmetric Bicep Curls, Loaded Lunges, Loaded Overhead Press, Asymmetric Deadlifts and 360 Swings.
How many reps are required for each workout?
Each of the seven strength workouts requires you to complete 100 reps.
What is the station system?
Each station will be supervised by an official who will help you count the reps and also advise you how to execute the workout correctly.

The RO:AR Mace & Preparation
What is the significance of the RO:AR Mace?
The RO:AR Mace is our key differentiator and the only equipment you'll use for all workouts. RO:AR mace is a workout tool grounded in India's rich martial traditions. Clubs & Maces have been core to the training and conditioning of India's wrestlers and strongmen for generations.
How will the mace be weighted?
The mace will be loaded with either one, two or three standard plates that weigh 2.5Kg each, depending on the participant category. We have kept the weights relatively light for the first version to make the movements more accessible to athletes.
Is any specific training required for the workouts?
While most of the workouts are fundamental movements, specific training is highly recommended for the two mace swinging workouts: the 10-2 Swing and the Mace 360 Swing. These movements require a unique level of control and coordination.
How can I prepare for the mace workouts?
Asthras has conducted bootcamps and workshops to help athletes train and practice these specific movements. We strongly recommend attending to get hands-on experience and guidance. Demo videos and guidance is also made available on our social handles.
How do i train for this event? Do I need the RO:AR Mace to train for this event?
While it would be ideal if you have access to the mace for training to help you simulate exact workouts and effort required, you can train reasonably well even if you do not have the RO:AR mace handy. Except the 2 mace swinging workouts that will be new to many participants, most other workouts are quite standard and do not require specific skill-building. We have added videos with details on how to train with alternate equipment like dumbells or kettlebells on our IG and Youtube feed - @theROARgames.
What are the safety considerations while using the mace?
The mace swinging workouts can be challenging, especially as fatigue sets in. The risk of losing your grip can increase, which could lead to injury. We urge you to be safe and stop before such a situation arises. While officials will help ensure plates are clamped securely, it is also the athlete's responsibility to stay aware for everyone's safety.
